Lene In Karlstad 2008: A Pop Icon Finding Herself Print E-mail
Saturday, 26 September 2009 13:48

On Friday August 29, 2008, Lene Marlin held her first full-length concert at the Värmland's Opera in Karlstad, Sweden. A concert that, over a year later, remains as Lene's only full-length live concert performance in all of her career. The following review is a great celebration of that event, and a well written article published only a week following the concert - a Lene concert reaching more and more legendary status as time goes by.

Host: Lene Marlin! Hi! Long time, no see?

Lene: Hello! It's always a long time between albums for me!

Host: I know! (laughter) Why? It's like a rule you have?

Lene: No, you work on the album, that takes a few months, perhaps up to a year. And then you take some time off. And then you need to feel inspired again, you know, to get back to work.

Host: Are you still based in your own country?

Lene: I'm based in Norway, yes!

One Last Review Of 'Twist The Truth' Print E-mail

There are not many things going on in the way of Lene Marlin news these days. Here is another review of Lene's latest album that, unfortunately, will not be of much comfort to any of us!

Now I could have done like Marlin is singing about, twisting the truth, and said that this is a good record. However, it isn't; it's in the better case a bit enjoyable at times.

Since the start in 1998 with the single "Unforgivable Sinner" and the album "Playing My Game", there have in my ears for the most part been standing still, she hasn't been even close to the potential she according to the debut was holding.

Another Review Of 'Twist The Truth': Sad Stuff Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 August 2009 22:01

The local paper Oppland Arbeiderblad did not leave Lene much honour in their 'Twist The Truth' album review back in April. As a comfort, we can offer a new Lene audio file for download in our Lene Audio section: 'Everything's Good' and 'Here We Are' live at NRK P3 Lydverket on April 1st, bundled in one convenient zip-file.

Once upon a time, there was this girl from Tromsø who silenced whole of pop Norway with "Unforgivable Sinner" and "Sitting Down Here".

Even in Italy, you could sit on the beach or the sidewalk restaurant listening to Lene Marlin being played on the radio. However, a quite incomprehensible self-imposed "break" after the bang debut in 1999 put the Tromsø girl quickly and efficiently on the sideline.
